So as most people know, I recently (July 3rd-14th) went on a trip to China to visit a girl I've been chatting with since maybe October or November last year... maybe longer. The thing is, I didn't chat with her in much detail until after the whole Japan thing, but this is when I realized that we actually have a lot in common. We started to like eachother more and more and I had some money so I decided I'd like to go visit her this summer.
Eventually the day came and I got on the plane for the 14 or whatever hour plane ride it takes to get to the opposite side of the earth. I was kind of unsure about things until I found her at the airport waiting for me. She was much more beautiful than I imagined and very shy. We made our way to the bus that would take us to her home in Tianjin and when things felt right, I held her hand. We held hands the whole way there. I think most of it was spent just dealing with the fact that we were actually together in the same place.
That night I checked into a hotel and she took me to a nice restaurant where we ordered much more food than we could eat. It was nice to be able to enjoy some nice food while being able to look into the eyes of the girl I've been starting to like for some time now.
The next day she got me at the hotel and we got our stuff and headed to the airport so we could fly to Zhang Jia Jie... a 5 days vacation we had planned while I was still in the US. This place is full of tall mountains, big rivers, and amazing views... and apparently wild monkeys.
We stayed in a total of 3 hotels I think... while we were there. The first one was the most impressive because it was so huge and built in the style of the native buildings with a vast courtyard... maybe I can get a picture up later but I don't have it now.
In the days we were there we did several things. We went river rafting on some rafts that had an outboard motor on them that carried like 11 people. I became somewhat famous around Zhang Jia Jie after attacking some trouble-making Chinese people with my $1.00 bamboo water gun I bought from some old Chinese lady. I say this because all the other days, people would recognize me for this and make the watergun shooting motion and some even wanted to take a picture with me. We also climbed up a mountain with a beautiful view... sometimes having to push eachother along. The day after that we went up in a gondola to the top of a mountain twice as high. This is where the horse statue pic and the pic of me standing with my leg on a big sign come from. Another day we went to a small shopping town where we took a nice boat ride together on the river. We also bought some cute baby dragon charms that you can see later when I'm in Washington as well as some other souvenirs. Some other things we did were visit a cave filled with multi-colored lights which was very cold and sometimes creepy in how dark and evil some of the places looked... and also took a walk around the bottom of a mountain which had some stream or river running by it. At this place our guide told us all kinds of stories about the different mountain formations like... "this mountain looks like a stranded boat" or "this mountain is 3 sisters" and things like that. Also I was afraid to use the bathroom here (worst case scenario) so I suffered a great deal until I found a wester style toilet. :(
All throughout those days we had a really good time and liked eachother more and more... and even more. I think the 4th day I was in China I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes. I was so happy. hehe
After the vacation was over, I went to visit my Chinese sister, Liu Chang for a couple of days. The main things we did were going to a theme park that had many miniaturized versions of famous places in China and we also went to a small beach. At this beach we met some workers that were there together and wanted us to play volleyball with them. We played some but my sister pretty quickly just wanted to watch us play.. maybe she's too small. After this they invited us to come over and sit with them under their umbrella and they shared some cantaloupe with me which was pretty yummy. They also gave me a job offer relating to sales of metal moulding (NOT THAT INTERESTED). I had fun with my sister but it was pretty short. I forgot to mention that we also watched BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN together (this is for you, Sean Richer).
After I came back, I had 4 days left with my new girlfriend. The rest of these days I just stayed at her place. Her mom had fun stuffing me with so much food I could explode. Her dad was nice too and let me try some pretty crazy Chinese alcohol which almost made me drunk... but instead made me a bit silly. Her mom is really a good cook and I liked pretty much everything she served us. Her parents also took us to a famous restaurant in the area where we enjoyed Peking duck among other things... so much food we couldn't finish it all yet it probably costs half of what you'd pay for a full size Quizno's sub.
Don't ask me any crazy or rude questions this time please! I did kiss her and that's all you need to know.
The time after I went home has been a little difficult. We've come to love eachother now and she's working on a way to come here to America and study in a school near me or my parents so we can see eachother more. She is really the sweetest and most considerate girl I've ever met and I am so lucky to have met her. :)

| | Junior Senior! | ] | As many of you know, I went to Japan for Spring Break. I went there to visit a Japanese girl named Yoko that I've been talking to since sometime before Christmas last year.
While I was there, I got to spend 3 days with Yoko and 3 days on my own because she has to work. I am not 100% sure those numbers of days are correct but it's close enough!
The first day I got there was spent heading home with Yoko and her sister with a quick stop for a drink at McDonalds on the way. Both Yoko and her sister seemed very nice, but Yoko's sister always had kind of a sad look on her face. Yoko told me later she was just really tired. I met Yoko's parents, both of which were very nice (only her mom spoke English out of the two).
For the days I spent alone, Yoko helped me plan the next day each night before we went to bed. Two of the days were spent exploring places in Tokyo, which were Odaiba, Shibuya, and Shinjuku. The other day was spent at the place where Yoko lives.
In Odaiba, I went to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation as well as SEGA Joypolis. The museum was interesting and a somewhat old guy working there wanted to talk to me for a long time I guess because I was American. He explained some of the exhibits in the section he worked at in English. That stuff was all about using biodegradable materials in homes and ways to conserve energy as well as how to keep a house warm or cool without electricity. There was a brain exhibit which had a lot of different animal brains, including humans. Dolphin brains probably looked the smartest to me. They also had some famous Japanese guy's brain but I forgot his name. Upstairs they had some new technology exhibits that were interesting, mostly to do with making things smaller, data storage, robots like ASIMO, and the internet. There were some other exhibits in another section about CHIKYU, a deep drilling ship that helps to detect earthquake activity and other stuff about space etc.
At SEGA Joypolis I went on 3 attractions, Dark Chapel, Wild Wing, and Sky Cruising. You can read about some of the attractions here at SEGA Joypolis here.
In Shibuya, I went to the street which I think is called Takeshita Dori, Meiji Jingu Shrine Garden, and Yoyogi Park, which are all in the Harajuku area. If you know anything about Harajuku, you know it's kind of famous for crazy looking teenagers, mostly girls, and yes I did see some.
Takeshita Dori had a lot of stores selling crazy clothes, American stuff, and other random stuff. Most of it was clothing though. I am pretty sure I counted 4 or 5 crepe shops along the way. I would have ordered one but I don't know much Japanese so I decided not to. Takeshita Dori is also where I found maybe the only black people in Japan.
On the way to Meiji Jingu Shrine Garden, I walked along some extremely wide gravel paths that are surrounded on both sides by forest where you occasionally walk under these gigantic wooden archways. That was probably the coolest experience I had in Japan. The garden itself was pretty nice but most of the flowers weren't in bloom yet so I didn't see all that much garden. It did have a nice place where I guess the emperor or someone important would go fishing often. There were many koi and ducks in the water. It was kind of relaxing to sit down and look at everything. While there I met three girls from UW and talked to them a little bit but they didn't seem too friendly.
At Yoyogi Park, I basically walked forward along this path I identified on a map that would definitely lead me towards some watery area which I figured would be interesting. Along the way I saw some girl walking on a park pench while some sketchy guy walked along side her pointing a video camera almost up her skirt. When I got to the water I sat down on a bench and just checked out all the things going on. To the left of me were some hacky-sack players, one of which had a weird percussion instrument that he made some cool beats with. To the right of me were three crazy Japanese school girls which had an unhealthy obsession with crows. Ahead of me were many people just enjoying a day in the park playing various sports or doing other activities. Some couple managed dropped something in the water near me and were fishing it out with an umbrella. After a while I decided it was time to head to Shinjuku, the official meeting place of the last great business men of Japan.
At Shinjuku, the plan was to go to Kabukicho, but I am not really sure if I made it or not. I was heading there but I got to an interesting place and stopped. It may have been Electric Street if it wasn't Kabukicho. There I found Club SEGA as well as SEGA's battle arena. The battle arena had every fighting game you'd want to play. Most people were either playing Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned or the new Gundam SEED vs Z.A.F.T. game which is based on the Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram game. It looked fun but I didn't feel like playing it. Instead, I played Virtua Fighter 4 and got my ass kicked by a Pai player. It's to be expected since I never get to play VF4 here in the states with anyone. I was happy to find so many active VF4 players in Japan.
Also in Shinjuku, I found a pretty cool videogame store named Trader I think. They had many used and new games, but what impressed me was their Dreamcast collection. There were so many things I never knew existed for Dreamcast, mostly huge special edition game boxes. I could have spent a lot of money on that stuff but instead I managed to locate a navy blue Nintendo DS Lite and bought it for 22,500 yen, which is a bit pricey ($212 USD).
I forgot to mention this but when I first got to Shinjuku I was a bit lost and some real Japanese bums tried to have a friendly conversation with me. Too bad bums don't know English, or maybe too bad for the bums I don't know Japanese. Regardless, they seemed nice and I am pretty sure they weren't asking for money.
On the last day alone, I stayed at Yoko's home. I went to a new mall they had there which was ok. I went to some bowling alley and arcade place they had there where I did something kind of embarassing or stupid I guess. They had a coin changer there so I used it. Unfortunately, I used it to buy 2000 yen worth of Taito coins which are used exclusively for pachinko and slot machines. Once I realized this I decided to see if the people working there would forgive my mistake and change my money back into yen. The official rule was that they wouldn't do this but they made an exception for me eventually after I talked to them enough. After I got my money back, I used the coin changer to get 100 yen coins like I was supposed to and played some games, which included the Mario Kart arcade version and a ping pong game where you hold a paddle and play against an AI opponent. While in this same general area, I went to a big electronics store called something GOO. They had some cool DS games I never heard of but I didn't buy any of them.
The rest of the day was spent at this place near the station where Yoko lives, which was kind of like an entertainment place. It has an arcade, a pachinko-slot place, and karaoke. I went to the arcade and played some Tekken 5 for a little bit before I was challenged by a guy which will, in a later story be identified. I sucked at first but the more time I spent playing, the more I could beat him because I was remembering how to play.
There is a bit of an interesting store I want to tell relating to my trips around Japan alone. One day while sitting on a train, I saw a guy who was the kind of guy you would instantly recognize if you saw again. I did not talk to him. The day I went to play Tekken 5, I acknowledged the guy I was fighting against when I left, and if you know anything about Japanese fighting games, you will know that you can't see your opponent while fighting them. I did NOT know who this guy was at first when I did this. Another day when heading to Odaiba, I saw the same guy from the other day (the guy from the train) sitting in my same train car. I didn't know anything about him except he was a guy I saw on a train before so we kinda looked at eachother a few times but didn't say anything. When the people next to me got up and left, he very quickly got into the seat next to me and started talking to me, which is when I quickly discovered he was the same guy I was playing Tekken 5 with. His name was Kai and he was 23 years old. We talked for a while and it was pretty cool. I found out the other arcade he plays at which was called OASIS. I'll probably look for it next time I go to Japan.
SO NOW THE OTHER DAYS...
The other days were spent with Yoko. The first day I spent with Yoko was in Asakusa where we walked around, visited a couple temples, looked at the water, and also looked at what she called a giant poo, but was infact the golden artistic sculpture on top of a building next to ASAHI BREWERIES,LTD. I had a lot of fun with Yoko this day. I think later is when we went to Akihabara. As most otaku nerds know, Akihabara is a place with tons of videogames, anime, and cosplayers. There are even cafes where the waitresses cosplay. I went in some stores and checked if I could find anything old and interesting for Sega Saturn or maybe Dreamcast, but not much success. We later went to a big electronics store where I bought Sean Richer a Dir En Grey CD and Legend of Starfi 3 for myself, which is a Nintendo-made platforming game and the latest in the series. Overall, Akihabara was kind of dirty and I felt kind of bad being there with Yoko wasting time shopping when we could be going somewhere more meaningful. I also know she doesn't like anime or games. She was very patient and was more than happy to let me look around but I felt bad about it so I suggested we go somewhere else! I'm a bit fuzzy on where we went next but I remember there being some sort of fire going on with a ton of firetrucks all over. Yoko really wanted to see what was going on but neither of us could find the source of the fire. Eventually the sirens got really annoying to her and she made us go into a convenience store for a little bit. After that I think we headed home but I know some part of that day we ate at a pretty good restaurant where Yoko ended up leaving my digital camera. She got it back for me though!
The other big day I spent with her was in Kamakura which is famous for many shrines (or temples I keep forgetting which is which!). You can also go to the ocean there. We walked along a path of cherry blossom trees that weren't quite blooming yet, went to 2 shrines, one of which had a giant buddha, the other of which had many interesting streams and garden stuff in it. You could also walk up a lot of steps and see the whole town. After that we went to the ocean, which was pretty dirty and smelled kind of bad, but still had a little fun. This day was a bit sad for me though but Yoko was very kind to me.
The other day spent with her I guess was the first day I got there, but I think we were either heading to her home or at her home most of that day. On Sunday I spent some time with her and her mom and we went to a replica of an old-style Japanese town, which is kind of like a western town but Japanese. It was pretty cool and they also had some replica old style japanese houses with thatched roofs. Later that day we went to a temple??? near Narita airport and for that I'll just show you some pics. It was pretty cool. I was still a bit sad that day too because I kept randomly thinking that I have to leave in a matter of hours. Before I went home, we all ate sushi at the airport, which her mom kindly paid for. I had a bit of a sad goodbye (some tears involved) and then I had to go back home.
Overall the trip to Japan was very fun and maybe some of the happiest days I've had in a long time. I impressed myself with my ability to learn a little Japanese and navigate Tokyo's complicated public transportation system on my own and I was happy to get a bit closer to a friend who was previously online only. Both Yoko and her mom want me to come back to Japan and I really like it there so I probably will either this summer or a later time. Even with this huge post I still feel like I missed a ton of things I saw and did in Japan so maybe some of you guys who read this should ask questions.
Hope you enjoyed this story about my trip!

I wonder how many people already know what they are going to be doing on said breaks.
On the 3 day weekend, I will be running around outside naked 6 hours a day.
On winter break I will be going home to visit my parents! I hope Christmas is cool.
On SPRING BREAK, I think I am going to go to Japan! I don't think I am going to go buy tons of super kawaii Japanese things though, but don't hold me to it. I'd be flying into Chiba and staying for a little over a week maybe with my Japanese friend.
So yeah, vacations are good. I think I will be much happier after winter and spring breaks. Maybe I just don't like to do so much work so often, but that is probably what I will have to do in the REAL WORLD TM lawl Mead. -_- I better get used to it. |

If you see me holding my shoulder tomorrow it's because this girl basically dared me to go down a steep hill, which I did successfully. The problem came when I tried to turn after going down at full speed, thus flying off and ramming the front of my shoulder into the ground. :D I don't think anything is broken but it felt incredibly weird when I first moved my arm. Hopefully I'll sleep most of this off. X_X |

I've been practicing skateboarding every day since I got the board and I am just about to the point where I can just ride it around wherever I want without too much trouble. Just doing that starting from ground zero is harder than you might imagine. Hopefully I'll learn to ollie next. I have the idea down. I just have to actually do it.
I got Soul Calibur 3 today. It's a lot cooler than I expected. It really seems like more of a new Soul Calibur game than SC2 did. EXTENDOROD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I played it over at Ben's place with Ben, Ian, and Mop for what seemed like a really long time. *insert lizard man bop*
I won't neglect to mention that I got pretty rocked most of the time in Smash tonight. Cuh Cuh Cuh CROUCH CANCEL!
Despite lazy behavior sometimes, things seem pretty cool lately. I hope things keeps up this way. |

| Oh man, VIDEOGAMES? |
[Oct. 12th, 2005|09:27 am] |
Today is the day I'll be getting SSX: On Tour. It got pretty good ratings on IGN and probably other sites. The graphics aren't leaps and bounds over the previous game, but they are still quite good. They added skis this time, which is cool. I just hope they improved over the demo where they seemed a bit buggy. Online play seems to be gone, which is a shame, but I don't have a PS2 network adapter anyways so I guess it doesn't matter. There's also a new create-a-character mode which is pretty standard in these types of games now. I'm not sure how much I'll use it due to my Kaori addiction, but we'll see. I think they made her ugly this time unlike the last game where she was at her peak.

We'll see how bad it is in-game. -_-

| | productive? | ] | I have been noticing more and more lately my life is finally getting back to normal. It's retarded that it took so long but I feel like I can actually start to enjoy thing things I used to before the events that transpired after Final Fantasy 11. Things are looking up.
School still feels stressful at times. I am still trying to get good at dealing with the feeling of there always being something to do. Sometimes my solution is to just ignore it but that usually makes it worse... like a couple weeks ago. Today I tried to get rid of all my stress by having a good time. I played some Zelda: The Minnish Cap and watched the Genshiken Volume 2 on DVD that I bought today. I'm also looking forward to SSX: On Tour and the rest that come out this month. It's really a good month for games, but it probably always is and I just never paid attention.
This weekend I hope to do lots of work on my assignments and the game project, AquaTerra that I'm the Technical Director for. I don't want to disappoint my team and especially not Stanlo because he works so much harder than me it seems. Hopefully I can get a lot done for the level editor.
So yep, there it is. A small insight into my life! |

This girl sitting there was talking to the old lady and saying she wishes she could sit at the window, so being the gentleman that I am, I offered her my window seat. It turns out it was her first time flying... cool.
So I started talking to her and found out that she is infact a stripper. Ok, no biggie. Talking to her more, I found out that she loves videogames and has more consoles than me (not that it's hard because I got robbed). Apparently her favorite game is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Super Mario Sunshine?
I ended up showing her my DS and letting her hold my stylus. She loved Nintendogs and now wants a DS plus the game.
Later I found out she got bailed out of jail in Georgia by her mom and has 1400 dollars in her wallet. Interesting.
I also got to see some interesting tattoos and eat some free gum that was offered to me.
Me: "It was nice meeting you." Her: "Yeah it was. Whenever I play videogames, I'll think of you."

| | cheerful | ] | So I woke up yesterday morning after staying the night at Stanlooooo's and my foot hurt a lot on the top part... kind of in the bone maybe? It got pretty bad by the end of the day and my friend Victor actually had to carry me up the stairs! (what a guy!) By the way, I was going up stairs because my apartment downstairs was flooded by a crazy washing machine days earlier... and it's being dried. So anyways... my foot is totally unuseable. I can't even stand with it flat on the floor any more because it hurts so much.
So I guess my question is WTF HAPPENED TO MY FOOT? Did I break it? BUT HOW!? Apologies to those who have already heard me complain about my foot a ton already.
I guess I need crutches? :/ |
